We are born with our rights to life, liberty, and property. They are not granted to us by government, only protected by it. Government should never be able to violate your rights. A government which violates your rights is a tyranny of others. If we accept that government can violate your rights, then any majority or group would carry the same authority to violate your rights since you most likely did not join this system by choice. Instead, government should exist only to protect the rights of the minority from the tyranny of others.
Taxation through non-voluntary methods is theft. You have a right to your property and the sweat of your brow, and anyone who takes that from you without your permission is a thief. You should not be involuntarily stripped of your assets, regardless of the justification, through the tyranny of others.
Income Tax
An income tax prevents individual investment and savings to prepare for one's future. It does not take into account what one intends to do with the earnings, only that one has it. There are of course deductions that the government allows, but the field is far too narrow and subjective. The more that is taxed, the higher the percentage of one's income must be devoted to liabilities and the less there is for assets and savings. The less the savings, the more debt, and it is this debt and inability to prepare for their future that is helping to destroy the middle class.
Between all taxes (income, sales, property, social security, etc), the average American pays 34% of their income in taxes every year. the bigger the government gets, the smaller the middle class has become. This is not a coincidence. Every penny spent by government is a penny taken out of the economy. That means that every penny the government spends needs to provide the same economic benefit to society or that individual in order for it to be worthwhile. Since government is known for its waste, this is highly unlikely. Government spending and taxation are costing the middle class its future.
** As a US congressman, I will stand to eliminate the federal income tax or reduce it to as close as 0 as possible.
Corporate Tax
A corporate tax is not a tax on corporations, despite what the name suggests. After all, a building cannot pay taxes. The corporate tax is an indirect tax on the people, mostly the working class. A 2006 study by the CBO shows that over 70% of the corporate income tax is paid for by domestic workers through reduced wages. A 2010 study comparing 65 countries from 1981 to 2005 shows that a 1% increase in corporate income tax leads to a 0.5-0.6% decrease in hourly worker pay. The majority of the remaining cost of the corporate income tax is paid through higher prices, once again paid by the middle class.
If the United States has the highest corporate income tax in the world, what does that say about what we're doing to the middle class?
