"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."
Unfortunately, the 10th amendment has become the absolutely most abused of all parts of the Bill of Rights. This very simple and straight forward rule has become virtually ignored by congress. As a constitutional republic, every single congressman has a duty to abide by and uphold our constitution. I will never vote for a piece of legislation that violates the 10th amendment. I will fight to repeal any legislation currently in existence that violates the 10th amendment. And I will introduce legislation that further places limits on the federal government's power in intrastate matters.
Nullification
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Kentucky Resolution as a protest to John Adams abuse of power with the Alien and Sedition Acts. This importance piece of our state's heritage was passed by the Kentucky legislature and specifically says that states have a responsibility to challenge the federal government when it oversteps its bounds by resisting and nullifying unconstitutional legislation. This role is of the highest importance when Washington is as out of control as it is and places unacceptable burdens on the state. As a US Congressman, I will fight to preserve this right of the states and work with the Kentucky legislature to encourage it to stand with its heritage and fight for its citizens against the overstepping federal government.
